Balance is something that we all strive for in our lives, but it can be a challenge to maintain. One area where balance is especially important is in our relationships with others. Our interactions with family, friends, and colleagues can be enhanced by seeking balance counseling. This form of therapy can help us create and maintain healthy relationships by teaching us how to better manage our time, emotions, and expectations. If you’re looking for a way to improve your relationships, life balance counseling may be the answer for you.

I Knew I Had To Change…

There was a time when I wore my physical and emotional exhaustion as a badge of honor. I would get so many compliments about how people admired how I was able to fit everything into my schedule. I knew something had to change when I was so physically exhausted I opted not to attend court for a car accident. Do you know what they do if you don’t go to court when you are supposed to? The courts issue a bench warrant.

Let me say that again. I was so mentally and physically exhausted that I decided to run the risk of being arrested rather than go to court because my body could not get out of bed.

Thankfully, I had the most wonderful girlfriends that lovingly told me they were concerned about me. I remember being so mad at them because I felt like they were attacking me. After missing that court date, I realized all their concerns were valid, and I set out to make changes. I was in desperate need of life balance counseling.

Evaluating Your Life Balance Needs

There is an exercise called The Circle of Life, which I do with all of my health coaching clients. It is a circle broken into 12 sections. Each section has an area of life like career, spirituality, relationships, and health.

You place a dot within each section to mark how satisfied you are with that area of your life. A dot placed towards the center of the circle indicates dissatisfaction, while a dot placed towards the outside indicates happiness.

My circle before I decided to make changes looked something like this.

It’s funny because I had lost a bunch of weight and was working out every day at this point in my life. I was so fit and looked so healthy.  In reality, my life was pretty imbalanced, but at least I had a starting point for determining a way forward to create balance and joy in my life.

If you did this exercise right now, how would your circle look? We can all benefit from life balance counseling from time to time.

What is Life Balance Counseling?

My role as an integrative health nutrition coach is to help my clients get balance in their life. I work with my clients to help them achieve goals, overcome obstacles, and make changes or shifts in their lives.

“Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching (IHWC) as a client-centered, relational approach to working with individuals collaboratively to address the health and wellbeing of the whole person.”

Integrative Medicine- The University of Arizona

Before achieving balance in your life, you must first define the issues. After one or two initial sessions, I usually have clarity on what aspects of my client’s life need the most attention and WHY my clients want to tackle them. Together we create a plan to work on the issues we identified earlier. While I can make plans, my clients are the ones who have to implement them. What they put into life balance counseling is what they get out of it.

Disclaimer: I am not a therapist, nor is working with me a suitable replacement for a therapist, especially if you are experiencing a mental health crisis or dealing with more serious mental health issues.

For example, if you are looking to advance your career and seek out a life coach to mentor you in this area, they may help you work through anxiety over giving presentations and teach you about building confidence. However, if your anxiety impacts your quality of life and negatively affects your job performance, a therapist would be a more appropriate practitioner to seek out.
